Race Information

As an early-season event held in March, we anticipate variable weather, creating more adventure in the race. The event will proceed in all weather conditions, other than unsafe situations, such as lightning. Athletes will experience a unique long-distance trail race with a cool course, awesome scenery, and a great venue based at The Mount, the stage and entertainment center of The Forge: Lemont Quarries.

Course Information

The Forge Trail Half Marathon and Quarter Marathon traverses the wide gravel trails and single-track MTB trails throughout The Forge and adjoining trails systems.

The courses will be developed based on trail conditions. Runners can expect a similar course as 2022, with a common start / finish line on the lawn in The Mount area of the Forge, 2 laps for the Half and 1 lap for the Quarter. Total mileage will be ~ 13 +/- miles for the Half and approximately 6.5 +/- miles for the Quarter, but it's a trail and we don't want to do anything funky to make it perfect distance.

The courses will be run on a combination of gravel, crushed limestone and MTB single-track trails.  The gravel is mostly flat.  The MTB, single-track sections have variable terrain and surfaces ranging from dirt, grass, rocks, mud, more rocks, roots, stumps, Sasquatch, etc. There will be a few spots that are technical, with a few short but steep inclines and downhills.

Trail running shoes are recommended.

Aid stations may be limited.  Please plan on carrying your own hydration and fuel.

Course Map

This map shows the 2022 Half Marathon course. The 2023 course for both the half and quarter marathon will likely be adjusted, as we are always developing new trails that can be used for the race.
