Race Information

Experience an exhilarating adventure with challenges that include trekking, orienteering, and biking throughout the Forge: Lemont Quarries and adjoining areas located along the historic I&M Canal and scenic trails and woods in nearby areas.

Individuals and teams will race together to find as many checkpoints as you can within 5 hours. The adventure course will include a variety of trails on gravel, dirt, single track, along scenic waterways, and maybe a surprise or two! Maps will be provided and the checkpoint may be already plotted or you may be asked to plot the checkpoints with instructions to add to the adventure.

Divisions:
Solo (Male and Female)
2-Person Team (Can be all male, all female or coed)
4-Person team (Can be all male, all female or coed)
Awards will be to the top three overall in each division: Solo Male, Solo Female, 2-Person Team, 4-Person Team.

Placement and awards will be based on points earned by finding each checkpoint (1 - 3 points each).

Your entry includes a long sleeve t-shirt, some cool swag (we'll figure what that will be soon), the opportunity to earn unique awards, and a post race party with complimentary food, beer and beverages.

Race Format & Distances

The race includes two segments that you may do in any order and within each section, you may do the checkpoints in any order.  This is a flexible format that adds to the strategy and adventure.

There will be a basecamp start/finish area within the Forge that you may use to store your gear and transition from the trekking to bike (or the other way around).

Trekking/Orienteering: Expect a variety of terrain, from gravel, to single track to some places off the trails, you may even need to get your feet wet (although no paddling is part of the race).  Checkpoint locations are a mix of beginner and intermediate-level difficulty, but we may throw a few ridiculously challenging locations into the mix too.  Trekking / Orienteering Distance = 4-5 miles.

Biking: Mostly on gravel / crushed limestone trails with some brief sections on pavement, with the possibility of some off trail riding too.  Bike Distance = ~ 14 - 16 miles.

Kids are allowed to race with adults too.

Registration

The entry fee is $75 per person.  $150 for a 2-person Team.  $300 for a 4-Person Team.

Important: For 2 and 4 Person Team Entries:

The Captain creates a team, registers and pays the full team entry fee.  The captain then may register the other team members by clicking on the "Add Another Registrant" button or the individual team members may register on their own.  Team members must join an existing team or create a team.
