This summer will burst with song with our SUPERHEROES Camp Trailblazers! Camp Trailblazers is a 3-day summer day camp, ideal for individuals 15+ with an intellectual, cognitive, and/or physical disability. Designed to fit the needs of those with special needs, this experience allows opportunities to surpass challenges and turn them into SUPER ABILITIES! The Forge transforms into magical place where our campers will experience activities that will bring them joy, pride, confidence, and new friendships!

Be A Superhero!

This year, we'll be unlocking & unleashing our Super Powers and becoming our own unique Superhero-selves!

Requirements

For ropes course and zipline activities campers must meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum weight 70 lbs-250 lbs
  • Minimum height 4'4” (52") - 6’6” (78")

 

** There will be other activities for those who do no meet climbing requirements.

 

  • Campers that are willing to push limitations when it comes to challenges including fear, heights, water, nature, physical endurance, and strength.
  • Campers would be encouraged to support, inspire, and help fellow campers challenge their limitations too.
  • Campers must be 15+ years old with a cognitive or physical disability.
  • Campers should be capable of communicating their needs & desires by responding to staff with a verbal, audible, or physical response. They must also be able to regulate verbal & nonverbal expressions in situations, and able to de-escalate in a reasonable amount of time.
  • Campers that require assistance with toileting or eating must bring a helper/assistant/aide.
  • Campers must not have behavior that proves too challenging for a teen-adult camp counselor. Campers should not be abusive toward themselves or others or have inappropriate sexual behavior.
  • Campers must provide all required medical forms & waivers.
  • Be able to adapt to schedule changes if needed. Due to weather, staffing, or other unforeseen circumstances.
  • Willingness to participate in planned activities and stay within their assigned group.
  • Be able to arrive on time and be picked up as scheduled.​

Accessibility

Camp Trailblazers is a place to learn new skills, make friends and have fun being active outside! 

  • Trails and pathways are easy to maneuver and are relatively flat. Paddlesports has an accessibility ramp with railings. At this time all campers wanting to Zip must be able to wear a harness and walk up the stairs on our Skyscraper Tower.
  • Counselors are experts in patience and kindness when guiding campers in activities.
  • Campers can move at their own pace and comfort level.
  • Campers that require assistance with toileting or eating must bring a helper/assistant/aide. Must not have significant behavioral issues that would prove too challenging for teen -adult camp counselors.

Criteria For Admission

Campers must meet all of the following criteria in order to participate in Camp Trailblazers:

  • Campers are ages 15-Adult and must have an intellectual or physical disability to participate and be able to communicate their needs and desires. 
  1. Campers should be capable of responding to staff with a verbal, audible, or physical response.
  2. Campers that require assistance with toileting or eating must bring a helper/assistant/aide. 
  3. Campers must not have behavior that proves too challenging for a teen -adult camp counselor. 
  4. Campers should not be abusive toward him/herself or others or have inappropriate sexual behavior.
  5. Campers must provide all required medical information to determine the appropriateness of the camper’s admission.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should Superheroes pack a lunch?

Campers must provide their own sack/packed lunch, snack and water bottle/drinks to camp. There are no heating facilities to heat up food or drink at camp.

What is the Camper to Counselor ratio?

We are looking to have a 1 Counselor per 3 camper ratio depending on enrollment. We cannot provide 1:1 assistance however if a camper is experiencing an issue of some kind, the Counselor will work with the camper to help redirect/refocus and take a break if necessary.
